  1. Context and Problem

Kazakh media outlet Neangime.kz, which specializes in news, analysis, and entertainment content, decided to expand its online platform to increase user engagement and improve interaction with its audience.

Task: To develop a new online platform for the Kazakh media with a modern design and functionality, optimized for mobile devices, featuring an enhanced recommendation system and opportunities for user interaction.

  1. Role and Responsibilities

In this project, I served as the product designer, and my responsibilities included:

  • Researching the target audience and analyzing current user behavior.

  • Designing the UX/UI of the platform to improve the user experience.

  • Implementing new features, such as a recommendation system, the ability to comment on articles, and integration with social networks.

  • Testing the platform with real users to gather feedback and improve the interface.

  1. Work Process

Stage 1: Research

Competitor Analysis:
We studied the best Kazakh and international media platforms to identify which features increase user engagement and retention. We focused on the use of personalized recommendations, interactive features (polls, comments), and the importance of quick access to content via mobile devices.

Stage 2: Designing the Solution

Based on the research, we identified several key areas for improvement:

  • Mobile Adaptation: The platform needed to be fully optimized for mobile devices, with easy navigation and readable content.

  • Personalization: Implementation of a recommendation system that would offer users articles based on their interests and browsing history.

  • User-Friendly Navigation: A simplified search and filtering system to allow users to quickly find topics and articles of interest.

Stage 4: Implementation and Support

After refining the design and functionality, the platform was handed over to the development team.
During the implementation phase, we actively participated in integrating the platform with existing content management systems (CMS) and setting up analytics to track user behavior after the launch of the updated version.

  1. Result

After launching the updated online platform, the following results were achieved:

  • A 50% increase in mobile traffic within the first three months, thanks to full mobile optimization.

  • Growth in organic traffic: the improved site structure and user-friendly navigation led to better SEO performance, which increased the number of new users.

  1. Conclusions and Reflection

This project demonstrated that a deep understanding of user behavior and the introduction of personalized features can significantly increase audience engagement and loyalty. The main success was simplifying content interaction, especially on mobile devices, which is crucial for the Kazakh market with its high mobile activity. In the future, I would like to work on expanding interactive features and adding more multimedia elements (videos, podcasts) to further enhance audience interaction.
